Greeks' favorite destinations for their 2016 summer holidays

Some interesting stats !

Over 88,000 Greek passengers booked air flights online via the airtickets.gr website during the 3 summer months.

According to the website’s data, the majority of the Greeks (69%) chose domestic destinations for their holidays, with Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Rhodes, Chania and Santorini being on the top of their list of preferences. Larnaka, London, Rome, Munich, Bucharest and Paris made up the top 6 picks for traveling abroad for Greeks.

The figures showed that their choices were more or less similar to 2015. An interesting find is that 8% more chose to book their tickets via their mobile devices, bringing the total of bookings through mobile apps to 25% of the aggregate. Aegean Airlines was the Greeks’ favourite airline, followed by Ryanair, while Olympic Air and Ellinair came in 3rd and 4th, respectively.

On average, Greek travelers booked their tickets 33 days prior to departing for their destinations to take advantage of discounted prices, compared to 2015 when the booked 23 days before departing.

How would they know that the pax. were Greek? That isn't something that's asked at booking and I doubt anybody sat down and analysed the names etc. of each pax which would be unreliable anyway. I suspect they've just used Greece-originating bookings to compile these statistics, which makes them totally meaningless (ex-pats, one way trips etc.)

Obviously not a scientific study But more a general pattern. They can collect info such as credit card issuing state/ address etc... There will always be exceptions but can still give a general idea.

Greeks book late!

No wonder A3 doesn't put flights on sale early!
