And my journey was:

AKL-BKK TG492 (Z) - 11888 miles
(BLUE upgrade email received)

BKK-VIE OS051 (P) - 5235 miles

CDG-CPH-BGO SK566/SK2862 (A) 1242+1200 = 2442 miles
(GOLD upgrade email received within 24 hours of miles crediting - actually the OS miles credited last)

Add sign up bonus and Star Gold achieved. :-) Digital card accepted at priority boarding and lounges on the journey back to NZ.

In just over 24 hours I'll be hitting *G next week, starting from the 1K sign up bonus last month. LGA-SEA via IAH in A class rt. Pretty easy.

Yes, this is a pretty awesome find, you can get A3 *G for $760-950 flying LGA-IAH-SEA roundtrip (19,740 miles in class A), for about 4-5 cpm. Available pretty much every day for the next few months, for any length of stay, on the United site.

For a more fun alternative, as mentioned earlier, you can do LGA-IAH-LAS roundtrip for about 15,828 miles (class A) for the same cost (about 5-6 cpm). Other connections are also available, but IAH gives the most miles.

This is probably the fastest, most comfortable, and cheapest way to A3 *G.

So...
I'm sort of screwed in a sense that I need to leave from IAH, which is a *A fortress and doesn't offer many MR opportunities. As a student funding MRs with the side income from various electronics design gigs and custom computers, time is not critical but I would like the cheapest routing exIAH.

now I wonder where to make another trip for remaining 5000mi.

I might even beat nk15 . Though with my trip I visit relatives in TX and go to Colombia as I always wanted

Have you been following the "Lifetime *G coming to an end?" thread? It seems that the initial qualification requirements for A3 gold may increase substantially after November, and the program is changing in general...

Hi guys! I was just looking at the new A3 ffp. I am in this situation..I need 5007 miles to get the Gold Card within the 10/12/2014. The new program will start on the 24th of November so at that date everything will be changed.

What should I do? Get the 5007 miles to Gold before the 24th of November?

Any suggestion about cheap flights I can achieve that? I can fly from ROM.

Thanks for your suggestions.

You should definitely fly your qualifying flight before or on the 23rd of November (on the 24th it will be to late). In addition, if you by the 10/12/2014 mean October 12th (and not December 10th, depending on which date format you're using), you should fly your qualifying flight even before the 10th of October, or else your current tier miles will be forfeit, if I'm interpreting the current programme rules correctly.

Thanks Snacky, so I need to fly before the 23th of Novemeber to be safe.
The date format is dd/mm/yy so I need to fly before December not October.

Now I need just to find a flight to cover 5007 from ROM or from any other convenient place in Italy.
Any suggestions on this?

Thanks

Generally speaking, try flying with:

ANA,
SAS,
Ethiopian

all economy tickets earn 100% miles with them.

For October, though, the best I could find is Turkish to PEK for 600€. I KNOW that during the same time frame lots of cheap flights can be had to Tokyo from Germany.
