Alaska Airlines has a platinum card - not sure of the annual fee. You get 5000 bonus miles, a $50 companion ticket good with any fare(and the companion ticket accrues mileage) and first class upgrades. Given where you live, you may not have occasion to fly Alaska very often but it has some of the very best airline partners.

there are a number of options.
AA/citibank: a companion tix with some restrictions.
delta/amex: 10000 miles for the gold card, first yr free. 15000 for plat, including 5000 status miles.
NW/usbank visa: i think you can still get 10000 miles (check some old postings. else 5000 is easy). 55 dollar/yr fee.
diners: 12000 miles good for most airlines. 80 dollars/yr.
so take yr pick.

If you do fly them often, the yearly anniversary upgrades, lounge passes and $50 companion coupon are extra nice. The certificates are also transferrable.
You can imagine the expression on the face of my previous boss when I ran into her at the airport one day, gave her a lounge pass and told her to enjoy herself in the Board Room.

You also get double miles for purchases spent with Alaska Airlines.
