Best DL Mileage Runs?/LAX-MCO Service
I know that as a first-timer I run the risk of asking questions that have recently been discussed but one must start somewhere. I am not sure of the general policy on multiple question posts so for my first I will "only" ask three.
First, I am interested in suggestions for mileage runs on Delta. I live in Los Angeles and travel to MCO/TPA several times a year and CDG once a year (at least I try). I also have good friends spread throughout the world that I would not mind visiting, even if only for a day or so (the real benefit of having three degrees cause money sure aint). I currently have about 115,000 SkyMiles with a recent conversion of old FF miles (accrued from tickets in college that I paid for myself. Hey there are some girls you just don't tell the parents about!) But I would like to keep these as a base for "emergencies". How does one get serious miles on Delta utilizing low fares but avoiding an "open jaw"? How are these booked, on the web, the phone, both? Any examples would be greatly appreciated.
Second, I am flying LAX/CDG/CPH rt on Air France/DL later this year. I can buy this for about $450 plus fees. Would I be better off buying the ticket and getting the mileage or using 50,000 SkyMiles?
Third, is the reduction from three daily LAX-MCO non-stops to just ONE a result of Delta's labor issues or a further reduction of service into and out of MCO? As a result of my father being a true yearly MM (this being a combination of base/double/hotel/car of course) our whole family flew everywhere in first for free for about 12 years. But then Delta gutted their FF program and then cut the daily non-stops into and out of MCO by about two thirds, replacing them with Delta Express. Hey, daddy don't fly coach so if I want a free ticket now it's gotta be US Airways, ughhh!

Oh maaan. Anything but a 737.

I would pay for this flight, and save my 50 000 miles. Doint that, you will get probably 14 000 base miles, which is half what you need for silver, and half the cost of a national flight. Not bad. Do not hesitate.
