Rental Car ff-Mile Survey

I often do not get my rental car miles posted to my ff accounts without a phone call or two. I'm curious how widespread this problem is. Some rental car companies are now charging a ff mile tax, so it is particularly irksome to me that the miles are not posted.

Please respond to this survey between now and Saturday November 25th 2000.
How often do you get your rental miles automatically?
How often do you have to call or write for rental car miles?
Or do you forget about it if the miles don't come?
Or do you not even bother with rental car miles?

Thank you. (Every survey response will count )

They almost never post without calling for them and I almost never call. It is the same with National, Hertz, Avis and Alamo who I have used in the last couple of months.

[*]My miles get posted automatically only 3 out of 10 rentals.[*]For the meager miles now offered, I don't feel it is worth the effort to call and then have to provide documentation by fax or mail.[*]During the reservation and pick-up process, I always submit my frequent flyer account number.

I rent from National and fly Delta. My points post without fail within one week from the date the car is returned. Tomorrow should post from last weekends SAT rental. If it doesnt it will be the first failure!

The Hertz/Delta credit normally works (eventually), but a lot of times, I don't bother.

I rent from Hertz, Avis, and National. Hertz seems to be the best of the lot. Avis the worst. Avis rentals where I try for Starwood points have never posted, while AA miles post a majority of the time, but not always. National posts seem OK usually, but bonus promotions are the pits. I am still trying for bonus miles I am owed going back to April.

I never bother with rental car miles. They so seldom post and for the paltry amount of miles it never seems worth it to follow up. I do always provide my number and if they do credit I figure I got a bonus I wasn't expecting.

I rent from Avis and they post my miles regularly. But sometimes they miss them and I just write them an email about it and they will give me 100 miles/day instead of usual 50. Before I signed up with Prefered Service, Avis seldom posts miles, but ever since I signed up with them, they have been posting them quiet regularly.

I rent frequently and always from Avis. I can't be bothered to go into the rental counter when I pick up my car. At my first FlyerTalk event I got a great tip from mweiss if I remember correctly. Since I always use my corporate AMEX, I just periodically send in the little receipts that come with the bill (I sent in 20 at one time once) to the airline and request credit. I did this with AS and they credited them within a couple of weeks. Ya gotta love this place.

I rent from Hertz, National, and Thrifty. I do not bother with miles at Hertz because generally they hide an extra charge for them
in the rate. National posts OnePass miles like clockwork, and Thrifty usually gets it right, but I don't bother chasing them when the miles don't show up.

I rent from Hertz and fly United. The miles are posted only about 2/3 of the time. The rest of the time I always remember to call if needed.

And I pay attention to any special promo's for double or triple miles.

Hertz points are never posted automaticly to my Delta or BA account. I needed to send them some docs.
Mostly I don't care about the miles.
