Best Way from Frankfurt to Zurich?

I'm flying into FRA on AA's new service from JFK in late May (hoping for some new service bonus miles) then want to go ZRH.

Is it best to take the train or fly between the 2 cities. I notice that the train is approx. US$194.00 roundtrip and SR & LH are US$287.00.

Any one had any experience on this route?

train: print out your timetable:

http://wapps.sbb.ch/hafasd/dhafas1.htm

type in the Stations: "Frankfurt Flughafen" and "Zrich" and the date and desired departure or arrival time.

train advantages: more room, more relaxation, more sightseeing (the Rhine!), and in Frankfurt you start in the airport, and in Zurich the main-station is in the middle of everything. No or just low taxi fares in Zurich (from the airport to a hotel in Zurich you are likely to pay more than $30 each way). Cheaper than planes. Much better chances of beiing on-time.

train disadvantage: bagagge-handling, no miles

neutral: time

(there is a direct AA flight from Chicago O'Hare to Zurich, also SR, and very likely SR/AA will codeshare AA & SR-flights to ZRH starting this spring - they are in "finalizing" talks just now).

Thanks Rudi.

I've done the LGA_ORD_ZRH flight before, but it was around US$1,200.00 for my dates in May and I got JFK_FRA for under $400.00.

Also, I'm hoping that since the AA JFK_FRA flight begins on May 16 that they'll offer bonus miles for taking it within the first month or so.

Personally, I'd rent a car and drive. It's an easy trip down the 5 and most of the parts Germany have no speed limit. Just don't speed once you get past Basel.

This depends on if you have the time and like to see the scenery or perhaps stop in a village for lunch or shopping.

Intrepid New Yorker that I am I don't have a driver's license!!

But as I would like to see the scenery I may take the train.
