Discount Travel <--- I know a Secret

Crew,

I know of one place on the web that discounts tickets on TWA 20% off the lowest published fare(Maybe not a very big secret).

The location is Global Discount Travel Services at 1-888-777-2222 or www.lowestfare.com

Does anyone know of other sites like this one for CO, NW, or HP?

Most sites quote only the lowest published fares. I have confirmed that Global offers the cheapest tickets on TWA with my corporate travel. They have even used them to book some of my flights.

Let me know,

crju

crju ~ I doubt you'll find another site like that for other airlines. The deal is that Global Discount Travel Services is owned by the former TWA CEO Carl Ichan (sp?), and part of his serverance/golden parachute was that he got umpteen millions of dollars in tickets on TWA at a discount, which he now sells at a discount through Global Discount Travel Services.

I don't know how good this info, but a year or so ago I was making a hotel reservation through Global (I've been using them for several years now for TWA flights) and I was transferred to some other company. When I was through making the reservation the guy asked if I was interested in discount prices on CO. I haven't used CO in years so I said no but I did keep the phone number (you never know). I don't know if it's still good or what kind of a discount they offer but for whatever it's worth the number is 1-800-681-3965. Remember this was last July so they may not even be around any more. Good luck.

Ive used Cheaptickets.com and they discount CO, and a bunch of others. However, the tickets are BULK. For example I booked IAH-SLC for this weekend and the fare was about $20 cheaper (comparing cheaptickets, expedia and CO's website simultaneously) per ticket on Cheaptickets. Here is the problem, the ARC ticket has $0.00 fare paid. A family friend who is a ticketing supervisor at CO explained the tickets are completely valid (I used them in Jan. on the same route got my Gold bonus miles and all) but CO can't alter the reservation, at all. And no upgrades, maybe on the plane if there is an empty seat but not prior, I did get bulkhead though.
You must call the travel agent to make any changes, the fee is $125 per ticket. Now that my Job has forced me to miss the first leg of my trip I'm gonna try standby, I'll let you know.

Also, Bestfares.com (This service has a fee.)is another site I've used to discount CO. Flew IAH-EWR-DUB RT and only paid $700 for two tickets was cheaper than IAH-NYC. I know they will discount other carriers but even they said that the discount on TWA is the largest. Again no upgrades but got my gold bonus on the trip. One ticket had all of the money on it and the other only had Taxes. Both got the miles.

I have had success in using them both and you can get discounts on other airlines aside from TWA.

Here's more discount travel agencies I found. I only used Travel For Less for discounted tickets for CO, NW and UA flights. The last one is PriceCostco Travel but I'm not sure whether it requires membership number or not. BTW I'm PriceCostco member.

The discounts are based on published fare; usually $25 off on fares $150-$249, $50 off on $250-$349, $75 off on $350-$449, and $100 off on $450 or more.

Except PriceCostco, others require you to call the airline and put the reservation on 24 hour hold. Then you call the agencies and they go ahead and ticket the reservation.

These discounters cover six major airlines. Usually USA (50 states) and Canadian destinations are covered but some include Caribbean, Mexican, and Central American destinations.

For further detail, check their sites.

Well here is the update to using a CO discounted ticket standby. On Friday, the 8:42 IAH-SLC flight was 26 people oversold but both my fiancee and I filled the two standby seats and made the flight.

First, I visited the Customer service location and had to pay a $75 fee per ticket for missing our prior flights. Cheaptickets said the fee would be $125 per ticket plus the fare difference.

Second, we were very early and were #3 and 4 on the standby list. (1 and 2 did not show when their names were called.)

Moral of the story, while discounted seats are very restrictive, being nice to the agents at the airport works wonders.
