offers to buy FF miles -- allowed by airlines?

I've received a few offers by email from some company offering to buy FF miles. Does anyone know what they do with them, and whether this is some kind of shady dealing? All that I've read says that this is *against* the rules...

I think it's pretty risky. The ones that have contacted me wanted my "pin", etc. Ol'
JAWs was not born yesterday, they could destroy you with the "admission code".

I have heard that there is a way to sell miles, but your ff plan has to allow you to put anyone's name on the certificate, then you can sell it to that person. If you are caught, then the consequences are harsh.

AGAINST THE RULES AGAINST THE RULES AGAINST THE RULES -- WHAT MORE CAN I SAY. THE AIRLINES CAN AND WILL (AND THEY HAVE THEIR WAYS) FIND OUT ABOUT ABUSE. YOU CAN LOSE A LOT MORE THAN YOUR MILES!

BlondeBomber is RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT!

And, in the state of Utah, it's a FELONY to buy or sell (think DL has some lobbying clout there or what?!)...

Again I say...What right does the government have imposing a fine when someone violates a private contract? Maybe the airlines can get damages for lost revenue, but I think the FF police should go bust someone for carrying drugs or x-rated stuff while simultaneously earning FF miles. *L*
