Hi. I don't live in YXE anymore, but I flew out of there on a number of occaisons during the renovations and shortly thereafter.
Renovations started in early 2001, and were completed in the summer-fall of 2002. There were a few setbacks, including a fairly serious fire in the old part of the terminal half way through the renovations which caused some setbacks in the overall project.
Basically the terminal hadn't received any renovations or upgrades since the early 1980s, so it was time to do something about it (very disgusting, handicap accessibility was a fairly big problem, and there was, I believe, a minor asbestos problem to be dealt with).
The ATC tower at YXE is brand new as well. Now, all I guess YXE (the city, not the airport) has to do is elect a government that won't continue to drive the province into the ground.

Coffeeflyer, sorry to hear that it didn't work out with WS - keep trying, i'm sure that they'll realize their mistake eventually!

YXE is now a VERY stark contrast to YQR, the latter is...well...a dump but does in theory have something they call a "MLL".
