Status aka "Q" Miles on ZIP

I haven't seen anything in the press release beyond "Aeroplan Accumulation." Has any announcement been made regarding whether or not ZIP will be Q miles?
Unlike Tango where no-interlining will be present, we will be interlining with AC. Therefore will AC miles be "Q" on ZIP or will we get ZIP on ZIP.

I think we'll see status miles on Zip, both for the reason you mention, and because WestJet is a tougher competitor than C3K, so it might take status miles to kill them (AC hopes; won't happen).

The fact that you can connnect to mainline AC from Zip also leads me to believe that miles will be status miles.

But they haven't said zip about it. Sorry, couldn't resist. But I agree with the previous two replies.

I was under the impression that "ZIP" will be operated just like "JAZZ" so we'll most likely see Q miles on their flights.

I can finally beat someone to an answer... it appears MAYBE YES. How's that for clarity? According to the ZIP web site:

---
ZIP AT A GLANCE

ZIP Air Inc. (ZIP) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Canada, which will launch this summer.

ZIP WILL OFFER

Competitive, low fares
Convenient schedules
Comfortable, reliable aircraft
Friendly, professional service
Electronic ticketing
Ample overhead storage space
Comfortable seat pitch
Complimentary on-board beverage and light snack service
Aeroplan Reward Program
Convenient connections to Air Canada's worldwide network
Automated check-in kiosks
A wide range of options for bookings including:
- Over the Internet
- With the ZIP call centre, or
- Through a travel agency

---

So I interpret that as a resounding yes. Given that they'll be interlining with AC Mainline, which Tango doesn't, then it just stands to reason. But then again what do I know? I'm still a Basic until my BP's are manually inputted to reflect Prestige. Next step Elite...

Cheers. Dogstar.

But tango participates in the Aeroplan award program too.

I stick with my earlier reasoning, they didn't need to give status miles to kill C3K, so they didn't. They'll need status miles to even take a run at WestJet, so they will.

Especially with ZIP replacing mainline flights on the routes that they are responsible for, they have to give you Q miles to keep you flying them. On Tango, by not giving you Q miles, it forces you to fly on mainline flights if you wanted them.

I am beginning to think that AC may need to hire the same ad agency that Clarica used for the spots that are currently playing across Canada. I am not easy to confuse, however, the 4321zip.com website says absolutely nothing about Q-miles, I mean Status Miles, specfically and given that I don't trust AC and Aeroplan of late, until I see something in black and white I would not 'bet the farm' on it.

One thing that really made me laugh from the Zip press release is that they will no be offering food, however, complimentary beverages and snacks will be provided. Excuse me, AC management, but the YVR-YYC inflight service in both Y and J has been like this for many, many months (breakfasts excluded).

Does AC really think frequent travellers are really that dumb?

No I don't think that AC management thinks that FF's are dumb. ZIP is not geared for the E,P and SE members. Nor is Westjet for that matter.
Just because they say that Zip flights will connect to mainline does not necessarily mean that there will be interline baggage check. It could mean integrated schedules so you could connect to that HKG,SFO,YYZ flight.
Guys don't get your hopes up.BTW,I did not get any official communique yet so I'm just playing Devil's advocate now.

If ZIP does not allow interlining or Status miles then exactly how does one get from YEG/YYC to HNL or SYD or HKG or NRT or.... oh, yes now I get it...United. I guess that was the plan all along! We should wait and see what the story is and perhaps this time they can think about this for a while before blurting out stuff they then have to retract (remember Q miles on Tango in the initial ads?)

If status miles are not going to be given for Zip flights then what would be the point of being a loyal AC customer any longer if your travel is normally between YVR-YYC-YEG? A loyalty program is built upon recognition of a customer's loyalty to a product that a company is selling - it's really that basic, isn't it? Sometimes I think AC management assumes that those of us who regularly travel between YVR-YYC-YEG will stay with loyal to AC no matter what happens - I'm afraid they're wrong from what other staff members in my office and many friends have told me. My first Westjet flight might be as early as mid-May...

What I really like about AC 'launches' is that most of the information lacks any details and guess what? No agents on the phones know what's going on either...the only way one can tell what's up on the YVR-YYC route is that the June schedule was ALL 737s up until 2 weeks ago and now they have thrown a BAE 142,767,319,320 and 321s into the mix. Are we supposed to pick the flights based on colour of the planes?
