Y Fares

Can somebody please tell me how I can find out the price of a Y ticket (return) from YVR--LHR?

I have already bought my ticket in Q class, but REALLY would love to sit up front for once.. If I can buy a ticket in Y, I can then use my swu coupons each way. I am just not sure of how much more it would cost me to upgrade my ticket to Y class though.

Do Y seats ever go on sale?
Are they cheaper to buy on the net? Net Fare?

I am presently booked to fly right after Easter..returning early May.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer to me.

You can get the fare from AC's website - just ask for a Y fare ($3510.70). You can do the same on Expedia or Travelocity by asking for no restrictions on the ticket. Y fares are never discounted, but you should be aware that the Y fare from LHR-YVR is less ($2958.70), so if you're planning more than one trip in the next little while and can start in LHR, you can save some money.

Edited to correct for YVR

There are cheaper Y fares requiring a 7 day stay YHE1 YLE1 etc to different markets. You might try those on for size. Sometimes you can buy a cheaper Y ticket to Frankfurt or Geneva than just to London that allows a stop in London.

The big question is to whether AC will honor it as upgradeable. I don't know about the new certificates but the old ones allowed it (4 or 5 years ago) when I was just Elite (in the days before SE). I flew to Geneva on a YHE or YKE fare and reservations wasn't going to honor the upgrade, saying it wasn't a full Y fare. Elite desk emailed me back a response that YKE etc fares were upgradeable and that got me the upgrade.

For the price of Y fare, maybe you should upgrade your fare to H and then bring a SE with you. It should still work out to be cheaper than buying a full Y that way.

How much did you pay for your Q fare?

H fare for just after easter is $1052 before taxes for leaving on Sun-Wed. If you take an SE with you and upgrade your own fare to H class, you would still be paying well less than $3510.70 full fare.

I was just saying if you were going to pay $3510.70 full fare to upgrade your flights [which you can't do until 3 days before departure], why don't you "bring" an SE with you, you could upgrade your own fare to H class and then buy the SE an H class ticket as well. In that case, the SE can upgrade you 7 days ahead, you'll be paying way less than full fare even if you factor in the cost of the SE's ticket.

Empress... I didn't buy an H ticket... I have a "Q" ticket... and I paid $769 for that ticket.

How can I take a SE with me? I am staying there for a month? How would they get back home? smile

See... I told you I was not following you..

I would book through AC or an agent. It is much more difficult to see all the fares on Travelocity now (you used to see all up to J class) with so many fares being offered. You can more easily find fares to lesser traveled destinations like GVA since there are not so many in the listing. Expedia sucks the worst since it lists the fewest.

In Travelocity you have to click on the:
My dates are flexible
Show me lowest coach-class fares for travel during the period:

radio button, then you will see a fare listing. If you can't see most, then there is another "More Fares" button at the bottom which shows you them.

Another way to do it is to force it by having it price a one week trip starting tomorrow. This automatically does a Y fare due to the no advance purchase requirements but since you are staying 7 days, it will punch out the lowest Y or M fares.

Take a SE with you by reimbursing them for their H class ticket. Whatever they do in LHR for that month if up to them, if it was me, I'll just get another ticket myself to get back to YVR until it's time to "pick you up". LHR-SEA is quite cheap from LHR [$596] so that's not a problem.

Clearer now?

Careful though... if she is staying over a Sat night, PTO might price out on some "M" fares which it considers as full fare but not upgradeable for Elite.

I just tried pricing out YVR-LHR leaving tomorrow and staying for a week, it's giving me $3510.70 for "Y" class.
