Thanks for the update, phoenixtc! For a change, a little good news for UA, that they are among the first to complete the modifications. And I like the idea, to reinforce with Kevlar. Should also improve the overall strength of the door.

This is great news. And by the way, about the only thing going on that makes a difference. All the other crazy actions will not stop a determined hijacker. From no parking zones, to multiple ID checks, to non passengers on the concourse to random thorough screenings. All fluff and a waste of time. Securing the cockpit, now that works.

Actually, even securing the cockpit door only works *after* 9/11. Before 9/11, if you took hostages and threatened to harm passengers or crew, they would probably have allowed access to the cockpit (because, in all of history, the experience was that you got diverted to an airport and most of the passengers/crew ultimately survived).

As of 10/22/01 DL has completed the cockpit door modification on 66% of the fleet. DL has planned to complete the entire fleet by 10/29/01, ahead of the FAA mandated 30-day window.

DL Connection carriers will be complete by late November.
