1-day car rental the best bang for your buck?

I wonder what would be the best option when one rents a car for a day? Hotel points, FF miles, Car rental points? Any input is appreciated.

I would choose either 500 airlines miles (where available, for example 500 BA miles with Avis) or 1000 Marriott points (with Hertz). Both are for leisure rates - payoff for corporate rates is less.

Yes, strange but true. I'm with PG here, with a slight emphasis on points due to my personal history of "faster" crediting and easier "extraction" of points when having difficulties getting them posted.

Do we have anywhere the earning possibilities for car rentals (in one place)...i.e. who gives 500/rental (i.e. better for one day rentals, less good as days go on), and which ones are 1 or 2 points/dollar (better for expensive rantals), and which are 50/100 per day (intermediate in value)???

Isn't it possible to combine 2 car rental certificates for 1 free day. I think UA and AA let you do this.

Maybe someone has a few extra...

My preferred choice for shorter rentals with Avis is the 300 Hyatt Gold Passport points.

I also received a limited-time coupon in one of my mailings for 600 Gold Passport points for an Avis rental. That is a good deal.

My choice for short term rentals is Alamo.

Alamo will give you 3 flight credits on Southwest Airline's Rapid Rewards program!

You only need 16 credits for a free flight.
These credits also count towards the 100 flight credits needed to reach FREE companion tickets for a year.

You need to give the reservations person ID #: 603723 Rate code: aw, and "say" that you are flying on southwest airlines.

That is a great tip for someone who flies SW, though I would not use it because I'm not sure if I would get the credits (what if they check), and also the short life of SW credits - my credits with SW have always expired.
