AeroplanPlus™ Gold Charge Card

I see AMEX has a link to apply for this new card on their website. I can't seem to be able to find any details at all about the card yet, or anything else Aeroplan-related for that matter.

The card looks nice.

I wonder if they will hook up Aeroplan miles to their points program. Then I can cancel my CIBC cards altogether.

Guess everyone found the new links within minutes of one another. Looks pretty much like the old CP Plat program [lounge access and priority lines for checkin, free companion ticket, etc.], albeit with the built in feature of the 50% bonus [as found on Mileage Rewards].

He he he...

Ever get the feeling that CIBC will soon feel just like CIBC cardholders have over the last few years, particularly in regards to Aeroplan?

Still nothing on Membership Rewards or benefits added to the existing Platinum Card that I can see. Unless they are planning to make us choose between the 2 Platinum products, I guess... same annual fee and such.

Info from a call to AMEX Platinum Card Customer Service...
  • MR transfer to Aeroplan will be available starting Feb 16, with a rate of 1:1. So, in effect, that's the 1.5 miles/$ for those of us in Points Accelerator. No introductory transfer bonus that they could see in their information.
  • The CSRs have been given no information about any benefits to be added to The Platinum Card yet. They stressed that I shouldn't necessarily read into that that none will be added, just that none have been given to them yet.
  • Though applications are now being taken for the new cards, they will be sent out to coincide with the Aeroplan launch date (Feb 16), so don't expect to see them in your mailbox next week!

Was told by the Platinum desk this a.m. that for existing cardholders they will be allowing point transfers from Amex Awards to AP in February and the ability to get AP points when you use the card. I told him that getting more AeroUseless points was not sufficient inducement for me.

Unfortunately at the present time the benefits of existing Platinum such as CO & NW lounge access will not be available with the new Aeroplan Amex card.

They are taking feedback and will unveil the entire programme in February maybe with such continued access!
