CP was partners with Aloha and surely Canadians must island hop, so why no partner? I put my recent Aloha miles into UA so its not that big an issue but there does seem to be a gap.

Nor to HKG or NRT!
I think it may be more a case of any Hawaiian carrier wanting to have to buy miles from Aeroplan. For mainland US carriers, there is competition for this onward intra-Island flying, so both Aloha and Hawaiian align themselves with FF programs. There really is no marketing need for either of them to do so with AC, and thus they can save $5 or $10 on a round trip, which is what buying Aeroplan miles would require. Rather apply it to the bottom profit line, than feed it to AC. Only makes business sense.
