Can checked luggage go only partway?
Suppose I have a ticket: YUL-YYZ-YVR (return), with just a plane change at YYZ.
I want to start in YUL but actually want to end up in YYZ on the return. (Let's say starting the flight form YUL was cheaper than from YYZ, and I have a cheap way of getting to YUL.)
I can easily just get out of the airport at YYZ but, strictly speaking, the luggage will go on to YUL. How can I get the luggage to be checked only partway to YYZ?
I was thinking that I could say that someone is going to pick up the luggage for me at YYZ and I need to pick it off the belt and hand it to him.
I've done this plenty of time with carry-on only, but checked luggage complicates things.
Thanks for any thoughts?

LE, tell the agent to short check your baggage to YYZ and that you will terminate your travel there (therby also taking you off the PAX list on YYZ-YUL).
I have done this before at YVR and had absolutely no problems.
If the agent gives you trouble, just tell him / her that you're meeting a friend at YYZ and will require your luggage as you have something for your friend and it's inside the bag. (I've done that at YOW.)

Are you saying the fare YUL-YVR is cheaper than YYZ-YVR? Otherwise, why not just book it as an Open Jaw? By not using your final segment [YYZ-YUL] and if the fare is cheaper, then are you not doing an "illegal" Hidden City scam? Or have you just changed your plans since havng booked/ticketed the flights?

Well, let's just say that YUL-YYZ-YVR is just a 'hypothetical' example.
A 'friend' of mine is flying from a certain European city (where he is on business anyway) to YYZ and then returning to this European city but connecting through LHR where, conveniently, he lives. But EURO-YYZ-LHR tix are MUCH more expensive...hence the question. You get the picture...?
YOWkid, good idea but the LHR connection is reasonably tight...worth a try anyway I think.
Shareholder, you suspected right. I am afraid that a fare recalculation would spring out of this if the agent suspected my 'friend' was ending in LHR.

LE, if your 'friend' is flying from a city with BD service, why not buy a one-way EURO-LHR tix on BD and then a return LHR-YYZ tix on AC. This may actually price out to something cheaper in the end anyways. And plus, there will be no hanky-pankying around with the system.
