CIBC is not protecting it's credit card customers either.

Send a comment to RBC, their Avion product has no fees.

Let them know.

CIBC is sure to to have some leakage here but their aerogold card base is so large it won't really make much of a dent. And, people who are working towards a specific award plateau really have no choice but to keep collecting. That's really part of the unethical approach by AC here and why I'mso steamed. None the less if you don't need the CIBC card aerogold to reach certain points plateaus change products and deliver the message.
DC at least "said" they would protest to AC highest levels. They could be more vulnerable than CIBC because most of their card base are AC travellers I think.

parnel: I think you're right about DC having more to loose here. I agree that probably the core of their membership (Aeroplan cards) is AC travelers since this card is generally not accepted in most retail stores as well as restaurants in small towns.

Japanese tourists. They also usually take the JB (?) card that no one outside of Japan has but every "famous" tourist spots takes.

Maybe CIBC Aerogold has such a large base due to the ability to redeem points/miles for air rewards. If enough people complain it will show up on radar and begin to cause at least a little concern at CIBC. If anything they can use it against AC in the negiotations about renewing their agreement.

Below is CIBC's and DC's response to my unhappiness at aeroplans changes. CIBC appears not to care much

CIBC response, it sounds like CIBC is taking notes.

Mr. Jakpot:

On behalf of the office of the CIBC Customer Care Centre, I acknowledge receipt of and thank you for your communication via the Internet regarding the recent Aeroplan Service fee announcement. I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments with our office.
As part of CIBC's overall business strategy, occasionally we will enter into an agreement with other companies such as Air Canada to enhance a CIBC product with incentives that provide clients the benefit of 2 products in one. Having said this, CIBC's contract with Air Canada does not permit CIBC to dictate Air Canada policy. Under section 17 of the card holders agreement it clearly states that CIBC is not responsible for the Aeroplan program or any Aeroplan Account or for Air Canada's administration of them. It also states that the terms of this program may be changed or terminated at any time by Air Canada and that Air Canada assumes no responsibility for the Visa Account or its administration.

We understand that the recent announcement by Air Canada to levy a service charge of $25.00 per ticket has been introduced to improve Aeroplan member's access to its call centres and websites and the new fees will ensure that Aeroplan can continue to invest in program enhancements. Air Canada had made the decision to introduce this fee prior to filing for CCAA.

Air Canada advises that the Domestic fuel surcharge was introduced due to the increase in crude oil and jet fuel prices and will be assessed and adjusted on a regular basis according to fuel prices.

As with the introduction of any fee, it is expected that not all Aerogold clients will agree with the rationale of Air Canada's business decision and may look for alternatives. However, it is the hope of both CIBC and Air Canada that clients will realize that in spite of the recent changes the Aerogold card offers the most valuable travel rewards of any card in Canada.

Mr. Jakpot your comments have been noted and forwarded to Air Canada. Thank you for writing.

here is the lame response I received from Aeroplan.
--------------------------------------
Messrs. Duchesne and Milton and Ms. Meier have reviewed your e-mail and
I am replying on their behalf.

We fully appreciate that the Service Fee has caused concern with many
members. In the last year, we have invested a great deal of money in
the service centres and have dramatically improved access. The Service
Fee enables us to further invest in both the call centres and the web.
Many more bookings will be web-enabled and youll be able to make your
redemption bookings on the web until year-end at no charge.

We need to self-fund these initiatives and we hope that once members
see what weve done to expand the program, they will understand that
fees are a part of the equation.

Thanks again for taking the time to send us your thoughts.

What will get CIBC's attention is to have hundreds of people call in and cancel their Aerogold, stating that the reason is the new redemption fees from Aeroplan.
