You're kidding, right? Pretty soon they may begin to charge us for being members, after all, they are the Best Frequent Flyer Program according to OAG.

They did before. I recall my father paying CAD$40.00 to join in like 1984.

QF doesn't charge foreigners, just Australian residents because it is required by law.. As for Aeroplan, there is no need to offer a bonus. QF doesn't, nor do most programs outside the US. Even US ones don't all do it unless they have a promotion going on. As noted, AC used to charge, but dropped it a decade or so ago. This was intended to defer start up costs, and was waived for its best customers.

As for SuperLarry's comment, AC has had plenty of route bonuses through out the year, and last year had several status mile bonuses. Where there is a need for a competitive advantage, all carriers will offer bonuses as routes may require.

I expect some intense targetted bonus miles promo after September. As usual, those who are loyal to AC all year long will not be receiving any of them!

Thanks for your comments. I was eyeing thier short haul awards and Canada is a great place to vacation.
