Need Help w/ TPA-YYZ July 4-7, Any options???

I would like to travel with my wife to Toronto on July 4th and return on July 7th. The fares are pretty high at $400 + per person on the non-stop service.

Are there any ways of getting the fares down?
I have Delta miles and Amex reward points.

Thanks for your help.

If you're flexible on your travel times, you can always try a $200-250 offer on priceline...

Can you travel on July 5-8 instead?

If so, the fare goes down to $375 USD (with taxes) on AC [direct flights] and $316 USD (with taxes) for DL, NW & CO [all with connections].

July 4 is a holiday down in the US so must be a lot of people travelling which is probably why you're getting high fares.

If flying out of Buffalo is a option try there. Sometimes there are companion fares. I.E, one pax pays low fare, and companion only pays the taxes.

For companion fares try calling AC. As for using Delta miles, you can use them on United, but only within the US, not ex-Canada.Call DL, say you want to use your miles on United.Delta miles cannot be used on Air Canada

I find the direct AC flights to/from Florida sell out of the cheap seats really quickly. I seem to always be buying expensive tickets or making connections even when planning a couple of months out. Especially on US holiday weekends too.

Buffalo is usually much cheaper, but I don't think anyone flys direct to Tampa or anywhere else in Florida for that matter. Or I suppose there is always Air Transat to Toronto from Orlando.

Actually Southwest flies non-stop to MCO from BUF. As far as TPA goes it appears that $240 CAD return is the applicable fare for all airlines but the 7th seems to be blacked out. A rental car from BUF and 2 hours later you are in Toronto. You can swing by the Falls too if you like. By flying into BUF you also save about $140 CAD in taxes and other garbage that gets added to Canadian tickets. Unless you book AC or a charter you will need to connect to YYZ so BUF is not a bad choice.

Briefly looked at rental cars and the rates at BUF appear aweful. Go to the Avis forum and try one of the discount codes bantered about to see if you can get a decent rate. BUF is also a much more user-friendly airport than is YYZ.
