Release of rewards seats request - any luck?

I have a friend who has an already ticketed reward ticket YYZ - YVR in Business Class (D-class). He wants to change the date of travel, and of course all flights on his preferred date are full in D-class. Has anybody ever had any luck calling AC Aeroplan and begging them to call Rev management and have them release a J seat and convert it to D? I have managed to do that before, but only on same day stand-by at the airport, but how about if you call ahead? Is it worth a shot?

You're joking, right? It won't happen. And if a seat becomes available, you'll be hit with a change fee of $25.

Same day standby at the airport is still allowed for free.
