The non-existent websaver

There is a YVR-HNL websaver this week for $479 so I decided to check out how much the total was, tried both Friday and Saturday and both are sold out. A quick peek at ITN showed that all YVR-HNL flights are very heavily booked [everything up to B class was gone], so why are they offering something that you cannot book?

[and no... i don't believe they sold that many L, V, H in the last 30 mins]

March 15 (YVR-HNL)

AC 3020 J6 C6 Y9 B9 H0 V0 Q0 L0
AC 3123 J2 C2 Y9 M9 B9 H0 V0 Q0 L0
AC 1133 J5 C0 Y9 M9 B9 H9 V0 Q0 L0

March 16 (YVR-HNL)

AC 3020 J6 C1 Y4 B4 H0 V0 Q0 L0
AC 1133 J5 C3 Y9 M9 B9 H4 V4 Q0 L0

This is ridiculous...

Those B's and Y's will likely become L's on day of departure if the flight is not oversold. The websaver might work in that case...

AC wants people to pack, and wait... like a standby flight, on the day of departure.

Also look at the few websavers to Europe they have had this year. Virtually none out of YYZ.

They must be managing capacity just so tight, and have cut MUC and CPH. However at what point is that dumb, a lot of us here get the AA websavers and other airlines sites. There are consistently numerous "deals" to Europe, it seeem ORD to BRU is on sale most weeks for $298.

Maybe this HNL fare is for their vast customer base in HNL?

Lots of explanations for limited number of web specials lately:

1. Spring Break is still keeping planes filled as Canadians head elsewhere in the world

2. US carriers still not seeing rebound to same extent, having lots of extra capacity due to larger systems, more airplanes per capita

3. AC having benefit of customers not able to get on filled charters

4. AC having better yield management [old models cannot be relied on which is why AA's previous superiority is no longer there]

5. Capacity across the Atlantic increases in April and May as aircraft shifted onto those routes ex-YYZ -- additional LHR, MUC returns, MAD and AMS start up...

On a route like HNL, AC will sell Y and B as webspecials within a day or two, since there will be little need for full fare, save ultra-last minute onwards to SYD or MEL.

Try this one...

YVR-HNL this week, the 2 return dates allowed: [seems like there's only 1 HNL-YVR flight a day?]

Mon: J1 C0 Y2 M2 B2 H0 V0 Q0 L0
Tue: J3 C0 Y1 M1 B1 H1 V1 Q0 L0

There's no way L class will appear for these 2 flights, why are they offering it as websaver!? No wonder why it's so cheap - $499. You can't book it!

Well there is ONE seat if you want to do the HNL-YVR-HNL Clearly this is where the demand for this fare will come from!

This is such a joke! First, they don't have ANY seats at the posted fare. Then, if you want to go, this is the price you pay for YVR-HNL return for the same dates:

Total Fare: $2510.93

IANAL but would this type of pricing be considered bait and switch?

Have you tried calling anyone at AC about this issue?

I can hear the reply now...people in the Maritimes must have purchased all the L seats early, early this morning which explains why they're all gone. Right?

If anyone would do it would be us MST and PST folks. Websavers are issued at c.12:00 Eastern, which works out to a sane 9pm or 10pm depending on your time zone. Of the few times being behind everyone helps
