Tango Miles are "Q".

Saw a purple ad for Tango in the Toronto Star yesterday. Reading the small print
it states " miles count towards tier status"

Now that standby has gone for L and Q tickets one earns the same miles whether flying A.C. or the Purple Beast.

Biggles.

From the http://www.flytango.com/ website.

Aeroplan
You can accumulate Aeroplan miles on all tango by Air Canada flights at a rate of 50% of actual mileage flown. You can also redeem your accumulated Aeroplan points on Tango by Air Canada flights. For further information call Aeroplan at 1-800-361-5373.

Aeroplan personnel are still in the dark about Tango. While booking YVR/YYC/LHR/GLA yesterday on AC/BD, redeeming a gazillion points for J-Class (92,500 to be exact thanks to the extra 12,500 BD segment to GLA rarely serviced by AC now), I chitchatted with the agent about the Tango Aeroplan award structure ~ she admitted that there's been little/no formal internal announcement to suggest that the award redemption levels are any different than current AC offerings.

That's just plain wrong, IMHO. If Tango has less "service" than AC then award redemption levels should be less.

Do anyone know if E and SE have access to the MLL if flying on Tango?

That's true in theory, but remember that the YYZ-GLA flight was 80k in the front cabin, but didn't offer the same level of comfort or service as the other flights to Europe.

So they'll probably charge regular rates for Tango. (And how many people will know the difference?).

UA didn't offer any discounts through points or revenue when connecting from the mainline airline to Shuttle. Stand alone Shuttle R/Ts cost the same points (and in most cases the same revenue fares) as mainline. All that for inferior servce and often late flights.

What's interesting is that AC seems to be getting into a Shuttle type airline when most of the other airlines in North America are looking to get (or have already gotten) out.

Tango is considered as Air Canada operated flights. Therefore, E & SE should continue to get access while flying on them. Since you will get Q miles for flying them, I don't see why they won't let you access the MLL with the appropiate status.

SE don't need to fly to get access to the lounge (if you can get past security ) so there should be no reason that flying Tango would get you disallowed

My question is will Tango fly out of the same terminals as where the MLLs are?

I think they will definitely operate out of T2 in YYZ. It doesn't make sense for them to waste $$ and setup kiosks and extra counters/agents over at T3 just for couple flights a day when all the facilities are readily available over at T2. These flights are technically Air Canada flights so if they want to fly out of a different terminal, it means that they probably will have to go thru all the application processes with the airport which I don't think they will.

Dividend Miles doesn't have discounted awards for MetroJet flights, so I doubt AC is going to have them for Tango flights.

Why would anyone use an award ticket to fly on Tango? It would be like earning points on AA and redeeming on C3K.

Lack of availability on a regular AC flight, either because of heavy booking, lack of regular flights where you want to go, or reduced availability?

[sorry, two more: not caring about the difference; not knowing about the difference]

Tango miles are not Q miles.
I called Aeroplan to enquire and was advised that Tango miles will not be Q-miles.
I guess AC does not want to drag business away from it's mainline..... Makes sense

Guess we will have to wait a while to see how Q miles shakes out. I would not trust the phone agents on this one. The fine print in the Toronto Star should be good enough for the short term to allow the flights to earn Q miles (even if you have to fight for them--somebody make sure they keep a copy of the ad, scan it in and make available here).

This is what it saids in their ad:

"You must be an Aeroplan member in order to accumulate Aeroplan miles. Accumulation represents 50% of mileage flown with a minimum of 250 miles. Base mileage accrual on Tango by Air Canada constitutes qualifying miles towards Aeroplan Tier Status."
