Futureshop

Was shopping at my local futureshop today. Beside the service terminal there was a training guide with the Futureshop and Aeroplan logos.

From what I could see, you will be able to earn 1 mile per dollar for purchases over $50.

Anybody know when this is starting?

Does this mean that any company which steps in as a White Knight to a Gerry Schwartz takeover target will automatically become an Aeroplan partner?

I expect that we will see more of these kind of things now that Aeroplan is a separate division that may in the future be spun off with an IPO. I wonder if we will start to be able to redeem our miles as well as earn them for merchandise at retailers like Future Shop (and Chapters?)

LOL

At first, I thought AC*SE was going to say he went in to Future Shop and found an Express Check-in Kiosk! I wonder how much it costs to buy a Kiosk[?] For YTO, it would be nice if they had a couple in the city, maybe at Union Station, or in the Royal York CTO. That way people can check-in while they wait for Express Busses. USAir can check-in at their CTO in Royal York, but not with a Kiosk contraption.

Effective Jan 26, 2001, Futureshop will be a partner in the Aeroplan program. You can register your FF number with them in your province and miles will be accumulated for every dollar with a minimum purchase of $50 before tax. Your FF number will appear on all your purchases in the province of registration from then on. If you shop in another province, you will have to register there as well.

Points will not be sent to Aeroplan for 35 days after purchases (due to Futureshops' return policy). Points should appear in your account approximately 6 weeks after purchase.

Just in time to buy that jumbo screen TV for the Superbowl, and get Aeroplan miles to boot. Put it on your CIBC AeroVisa and watch those miles add up. Can Chapters be far behind?

Fro m this morning's paper it looks like Chapters will not become a part of Future Shop, and the Trilogy -- it is not Onex this time, but a separate unrelated (except for Schwartz himself) company bid may well win the day. Maybe they'll opt for converting Indigo! and Chapters points into AAdvantage miles! In any case, the Future Shop flyer included in today's Toronto Star for this weekend's bargains makes no mention of Aeroplan points being offered or coming soon. I say this, not to question CPYVR's information, but just as a curious way to "soft launch" their entry into Aeroplan.

The launch today of Futureshop has been delayed due to technical problems according to a bulletin we received early this morning. No mention as to whose problem. The communication we received is that we will be advised next week as to the new start date.

This was only to be a soft launch with no advertising until mid-February. Information was to be placed at the checkout counters in Futureshop, but media information was not going to be released until later.

Will certainly keep you up to date as soon as I find out the new launch date. We received our packets at work today, but now await the new launch date.

You can earn 100 Aeroplan bonus miles just for registering your Aeroplan card # before April 1st, 2001 at www.futureshop.com or at any one of their stores.

You can also earn 1000 Aeroplan bonus miles on any purchase over $250 (before taxes) made between Feb 19th and April 30th, 2001
