I too just registered (I was able to register not only my card linked with Membership Rewards but also my Cash Back card - it gives up to 5% cashback).
Now, the big question is - just purchase of Internet Savings Bonds count????? I don't know if the 'internet' catch all is going to exclude this.

Another *very funky* AMEX promo. Sigh. Sure gets old. I thought I had seen it all - now I think I'm getting there with this flawed scheme.
I live about 100 miles away from Dallas. Plan to be in the Dallas area this weekend and will be of course using both (either/or as I choose) my AMEX CENT or AMEX/Starwood Optima card.
Silly me - I had the notion I should register one or both and make use of them while in Dallas. Nope. Appears its not "good enough" to simply "spend money" and "charge" in the Dallas or Boston area. One must live there also, as the AMEX site presumably only allows cards to be registered if the CARDHOLDER ALSO lives in the area.
Geez...can these promos be more surgically specific, or should I say "restrictive" ? Let me guess - next time AMEX will specify the cardholder must charge only on Sundays...on a rainy day...while standing on one foot...eating a sour pickel...and the charges is only doubled in Kalamazoo, MI, or Macon, GA.
Does AMEX not *get it* as to how foolish they look with these inane promotions ? Oh, and how targeted was this ? AMEX took a full page ad in the Dallas Morning News to announce this screwed up scheme, a paper which is delivered right to my driveway 365 days a year...so I get to read about it in my daily paper, but apparently aren't eligible because of AMEX's "gotcha clauses". Who in the world thinks these up at AMEX ?
I fuilly respect the value, and power of, targeted promotions to an organization to test new product ideas, induce a desired consumer behavior, etc, but this AMEX promo seems to be a half-breed between a targeted promotion, and a poorly-thought out implementation of a regional promotion (hence the full page ad in the Dallas Morning News, and, I suspect, in the Bostom local paper also).
===> Would anyone care to speculate what AMEX is trying to accomplish with such a scatterbrained promotion as this ?
