I just got something in the mail from my sister from a company she's been using. It's a cheaper long distance company, TTI a division of MCI. They offer 6.9 cents a minute long distance AND an 800 number each with no monthly fee. Their calling card is 13.9 cents a minute with no surcharge.

I called the 800 number and found out that they are a division of MCI Worldcom. They said that they (MCI) offer the lower rates but no frequent flyer miles. I can get an 800 number to call home anytime for only 6.9 cents a minute, is that better than the miles I get right now? Has anyone found anything better, but with no monthly fee. I know we value a mile at approx .02 cents/each so it might be worth the switch since i'll get a bonus of miles to switch back. <or> I can just get the 800# and not have to switch my long distance.

I'm with Sprint now for those 25,000 miles.
Someone else on the boards mentioned www.bigzoo.com. I use it during the day or in-state (when Sprint nickle nights isn't in effect.) Pre-paid phone time on-line. You buy time with a credit card and they give you a pin. No physical card. 3.9 cents anytime in the lower 48 states. Easy to recharge account for more time and able to see record of calls on-line. Must dial their number and then a Pin,I just put on the speed dial and it takes less than 10 seconds to complete a call. I look at it as the best of both worlds. 25,000 pts. and cheap phone time. And there is always Freeway which is free and even better if you have the time.
I will be with Sprint or MCI as long as they keep those 25,000 miles coming. My loyality can be bought.

I read in one of the finance mag. (doctor's office) that under 5 cents it becomes unprofitable for a phone company to keep records and bill you. That is why "bigzoo.com" makes sense. They can give you phone time so cheap because no bills to mail and only on-line recordkeeping.

I do the same thing. I use a cheap access code and MCI or Sprint. I have signed up 5 phones for 25,000 each, twice. I pay the $5-8 a month for minimum usage and use the access code to make my calls. I'm willing to spend $25-50 for 25,000. Where can you get a RT ticket for $50. The only way to go. The best of both worlds.

Qwest also has very attractive rates. Something like your rate goes down every month until you reach $.05 flat 24/7 with no fee (I think).

I just switched to Qwest - $100 cash for switching, no monthly fees, 5.9 cents per minute. I don't use dial arounds or access codes if I get a good deal like this.

Also, if you have a co-branded credit card, you can get your miles that way. I know MCI will bill your card; it does mine. You could also get "double miles" this way.

Unfortunately, this is another "you snooze, you lose" deal, they have reduced the bonus to $50.

If the Quest $100 deal is the same one I checked out yesterday, they also offer to take your name off of telemarketing lists. This is automatic and includes MCI, SPRINT and ATT so you will never get another offer to "comeback".

I called that 800 number for 6.9 cents, they gave me an access number to use during the day, so it did not switch my carrier (10-10-XXX). I also got the 800 number for only 6.9 cents a minute, no monthly fee. haven't been able to beat that one yet.

I have 7 cents/minute with AT&T and I don't have to deal with MCI!

For my business line, I actually use MCI at $.09/minute 24/5 and $.05 Saturday and Sunday. You have to sign up for it at www.mci.com, get billed directly to your credit card, and get your statement online.

I get 5 OnePass miles per dollar, as well.

Since I work at home, and make most of my calls during the day, this works best for me.

dilbert, surprisingly no! AT&T doesn't offer miles that I know of and I won't do business with MCI. Sprint doesn't offer enough miles to make it worth my while. So I'm leaving miles on the table!

AT&T has been promising their Personal Rewards program for nearly a year now - they are supposedly still trying it out in several states. From what I have heard, they are not nearly as generous with their miles as MCI (with its 25,000 miles bonus), but you can spend your miles on lots of things like gift certificates, etc Remember, AT&T now owns TCI, so if you have TCI cable then you will be able to get points for your cable charges. I wonder if that means I will have to pay another tax on my cable bill to cover the points ??
