Best last minute EWR - IAD ticket ideas?
I just found out I need to be near dulles for a few hours next week and have less than 7 days to buy ticket (not that it would help.) I am paying and can't stomach the $481 that CO wants.
CO, NW, or HP would be best as it will give me silver one pass.
Can anybody offer a strategy that might get me there. Tried bdl-ewr-bwi but the only return that works is bwi-cle-bdl and the price is over $600.
At this moment my choices seem to be a looong ride in the 3.2TL or southwest from ISP.
I would appreciate any help.

Take the train...much cheaper...you'll make silver later on...train is around $150 R/Trip...and much better in the weather! Cab it to Dulles from Union Station.

Bdl-ewr-bwi rd trip is normally $100. You must lose the cle portion. It doesn't matter if the times aren't perfect for the return. Stay over night in baltimore $50 at townplace suites (by marriott) still much cheaper than paying the $600. If you want elite on CO this is your only option. If not the previous post about the train is on the money.

Thanks for the help....
I got the same results. The times don't work for me on the return into bdl (kills another day).
I think I will drive down. The train / cab will take the same time (I think).
I am going to go to SFO for a weekend in August and I can do a ewr-cle-fll-cle-sfo on the way out w/o changing the fare. My girlfriend will be on the return flight with me - and I don't think she is ready for the mileage harvesting side of me just yet.
That will kill a few hours but will get me the extra miles I needed to be silver by labor day.

Did you try UA? I often fly midweek returns (admittedly ususally to LGA) out of IAD for less than $200...even buying up to a day before the flight. Of course, as an added bonus you MAY get to fly on a much-heralded J-31!!!!!!!

Do you have to be in DC on a weekday or weekend?
In March and April, I flew EWR-DCA-EWR for $189RT on weekends. The fare (T-class, if I remember correctly) is a weekend fare, which apparently doesn't require advance purchase because I purchased the tickets two days before departure.

As stated above DCA-EWR Sat and Sun fare is a nice $189 RT. I have done it for $75 RT with planning ahead during the week. It pays to plan ahead. Cash in 15k-20k ff miles for a freebie otherwise use the train (or the bus is even cheaper so sez the college students next door). Oh yes, Amtrak gives 10-15% off most fares for AAA members.
