Bryson: very frequent flyer; never gets the miles
Don't miss this highly amusing column by Bill Bryson from the March 14th SF Examiner Magazine; it's laugh-out-loud-funny.
"How a Very Frequent Flyer Barely Makes it to the Plane and Never Logs the Miles"

Location: In protest of Flyertalk's uncalledfor censoring of my point of view, I cancelled my InsideFlyer subscription. So long, and thanks for everything.

Bill Bryson always is a hoot -- insightful and marvelous in his (often unPC) responses to cultures, people and travel. The following two titles, in particular, are favorites but try not to read them alone because you'll suffer from having no one to poke in the ribs whilst you read aloud to share the hilarity.
"Notes from a Small Island" by Bill Bryson. Here's a review from Amazon.com: Bill Bryson is an unabashed Anglophile who, through a mistake of history, happened to be born and bred in Iowa. Righting that error, he spent 20 years in England before deciding to repatriate: "I had recently read that 3.7 million Americans according to a Gallup poll, believed that they had been abducted by aliens at one time or another, so it was clear that my people needed me." That comic tone enlivens this account of Bryson's farewell walking tour of the countryside of "the green and kindly island that had for two decades been my home."
"The Lost Continent: Travels In Small Town America" by Bill Bryson. Thoroughly delicious!

I needed a good laugh and Mr. Bryson did it! Thanks Bill!
Maybe you can still get your B-A miles: send customer service a copy of the article. Maybe they'll even give you DOUBLE MILES!
Everyone: read the article again. What happened to Bill has happened to us at least once in our travels.
And he has taught us an important lesson: NEVER, EVER put your FF cards and airline tix and other important papers in the bag. Carry them separately, like in a card travel wallet (that I have for my cards!)
