Travel Web Page Showing # of avail. seats?
Hello FTers,
I guess that I should know this but I had wanted to explore standby flight availability for over a year. I used to use Trip.com to check on the number of open seats (< 7 open seats). When I used this website (Trip.com) last week, I found that this feature did not currently exist.
Any information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Va.SquireFlyer

Have you tried http://www.itn.net ? When you register at the site, set your profile to "expert" and you can see seating listings like: "F7 A7 Y7 B7 M7 H7 Q7 K7 L7 U7"
Their prices are not great, however! You may wish to book elsewhere.

Bear in mind that both methods -- viewing inventories and looking at seat maps -- have significant shortfalls.
The inventories published by an airline always have a maximum display value. For most US based airlines, you'll never see more than 7 seats in a given inventory bucket at one time. For some Asian carriers, you'll never see more than 4, regardless of how many spots are still available for sale.
The seatmap feature doesn't work because "blocked" seats show up as taken, but also not all passengers have seat assignments. This is especially true if there have been pax re-routed from other flights.

Very true, for a Delta flight for this weekend:
- itn.net showed 4 seats available
- delta.com showed 12 seats available (extra 8 seats were only available to Delta Medallion members)
- Delta phone agent said there were about 35 seats still free
I just told them I was thinking about trying to fly standby on that flight (which was true), and wanted to get an idea of how likely that might be.
