10,000 bonus miles on Northwest
Not sure if this has been posted in the Buzz yet, but I just discovered it today when I randomly opened a direct marketing email from Northwest. Only open to US residents...
Anyway, complete transactions with five NW partners and get 10,000 extra miles. It's a bit confusing in terms of eligible transactions but it looks very doable, even if you hardly ever get on an airplane

Great to see NWA stand up to one of its mistakes. I'm sure the "cheap" ticket travelers in the UAL forum wish United would do the same. NWA's error is sure to cost them much, much more than United's.

The way I read this, is that if you are grandfathered in, you can satisfy the requirements by simply staying 5 TIMES within the promo period at the various hotel chains, so long as you do each chain once a month, and that prior to check in you designate that you wish to earn NW miles for the stay.
Since you have 3 months to do this, that is less than 2 stays at different chains a month? That seems very very doable for 10,000 miles!!
I invite comments and I will now read the other links.
I much prefer to do it that way than by signing up for all that SPAM or Sprint products!!!

I am not sure why this belongs in Buzz as there has been a lot of discussion on this on the NW forum.
My reading of the change in terms is that it applies only to transfers from programs (including hotel frequent stay programs). It does not apply to hotel stays where you request airline miles (and not hotel points) for the stay.

1). Now why mention CHECK-IN or STAY, IF IT APPLIES ONLY TO MILEAGE TRANSFERS???????
2). I very much appreciate that this item was posted here, as I do not regularly visit the NW board, for perhaps unlike you, many of us view our NW miles as just sitting around as we are unable to do a miles to hotel point conversion.
3). When did you become the monitor of this board??? I will gladly do a search of all your posts, and see where you have hypocritically transgressed your own advice.

But, simply put PG, this is one of the better bonus mile offers I have seen in a while, and you don't need to fly on NW at all to get these points. A lot of folks don't go to the NWA forum (this was the first visit for me in six months!) but I do have some dormant NWA miles that will soon be sufficient enough for a free ticket thanks to this promo.
I made a simple decision so that others may be able to benefit. In my judgement, this is Buzz worthy. It is a lot easier to complain about the general trend lately than to say "yeah, finally, a half decent thread that belongs in the Buzz".
To go back to your Starwood question, from my basic reading of the offer, you could conceivably complete this bonus by:
(1) staying at Starwood properties five separate times during eligibility period
(2) transferring Starwood PG points to NWA miles in Feb, Mar, and Apr (as long as you register by tomorrow) and complete two hotel stays
(3) transferring Starwood PG points to NWA miles in Feb, Mar, or Apr and complete four stays
etc...
So, you don't have to fly NWA at all. If you throw in a car rental, use Sprint LD or PCS, have a Diners Club point transfer, etc, you have a quick and easy 10,000 bonus miles.
FINALLY, my original purpose for posting this thread was to link back to the original thread in the NWA forum, where the real WorldPerks experts reside. It's counterproductive to do any more parsing of the promo terms in this thread.
And don't be surprised if Randy puts this offer in this top 10 bonus list in InsideFlyer.

We indeed have no real "monitor," but for Randy & Co, but should there ever be an election and PG were running, he would very likely get my vote! 
FWIW, I personally really like the rather consistent independent thought, frank, succinct & generally kind expression and ubiquitious objectivity - and without saying too much, we might each try to emulate this to a degree, IMHO!
And that's my objective assement!
Oh... and btw, I personally have no objection whatsoever to the "sharing of the NWA wealth" with all of FT by way of the REposting in this info in the BUZZ!

If memory serves me, that ammount sufficient to get 2 free R/T tix within Hawaii.
Now, that is not too shabby, especially since one will not even have to fly on NorthWorst.

DOC 2 BE - I seemed to have touched some raw nerve. If you want to continue some heated discussion, my email address is listed on my profile. I think that there are reasonable grounds to discuss rationally what should be posted where. As noted, there are many other threads which have nothing to do with the latest frequent flyer buzz which are posted in the buzz. I think that it is fair for me, you, or anyone to discuss ground rules about posting.
BTW - I am not hostage to any one airline. I have elite status with two airlines and >100K miles with four airlines.

It is a difference of opinion as to what belongs here. I agree with Fallin that when an exceptional offer comes along, as this one appears to be, it should be posted where it will the greatest dissemination, and that happens to be in the Buzz.
As I have said above, I doubt that I would have been alerted to this offer were it not for Fallin. Therefore, as a general rule, I agree with you that most trivial matters relating to a particular program may have no place here; however, where there are a large amount of points/miles to be gained, or where there is a question of general applicability to other programs, I do believe that the Buzz is the best place to raise it, except perhaps in the specific program's header, as well.

A link from here to the original post seems appropriate here for those who don't visit the NW Forum. (Thanks fallinasleep) But I would suggest that after that link is posted we debate the ins and outs of the promo in only one place. I have been following the discussion on the NW Forum which is fairly extensive already if you take the time to read it all. It can be very confusing and time consuming to have to follow several threads on the very same topic in several forums. Just a suggestion--please don't bite my head off.
