Interesting Facts: Part III
OK, so I am now back from my big vacation in India. Now it's time to get back to the technical crap that everyone loves to hear.
The normal 747's, be it the old or new ones, all have triple slottled flaps. Meaning that there are actually 3 flaps inside each flaps. If you look when they are being extended you can clearly see each of them extend in turn.
But in order to meet the specifications promissed to the airlines, Boeing had to make a change in the design of the 747SP. It has a special single flap design that saved the plane 12,000lbs, and could then meet the specs.
So there ya go. You will probably never fly on an SP as they are rare to find (I know Quantas has a couple), but it is still an interesting fact.
Peace all.
