Southern California airports closed
It's 11am Sunday. A friend just called me from his diverted plane in Las Vegas. They were flying from San Francisco to San Diego and the plane was diverted to Las Vegas. As he was talking to me from the plane, the official announcment came over the PA. All SCal airports closed at this moment due to the fires and a air traffic control center being threaten by the fires.

I'm in North County San Diego....there's blowing ash outside and an eery glow in the sky....I see that lots of homes are lost already...I'm lucky to be very close to the beach and out of harms way at the moment....god bless those in the path of these fires.

The air traffic control center

is showing a ground stop for LA and San Diego because of evacuation from the SCT (though they only use the word evacuation on the LA graphic)

I'm scheduled to fly SAN-LAS tonight at 9:20PM....oh well...I don't even know if I'll be able to drive it...lots of roads are closed including the 15 in some areas.

Southwest has just cancelled all flights in/out of SAN for the remainder of the day....other airlines expected to follow suit....according to the news here.

I can see a wall of flames from my house and they are less than 2 miles away -- I live on the edge of Mission Valley directly above Qualcomm Stadium on the south side -- and the fires are getting worse. No flights today and potentially none tomorrow would be my guess. We are packed and ready to go if the evacuation order comes -- just check before flying into SO CA the next few days
