Airline reservations
I need some help here. I don't really know what to do. Last friday night I went to book a reservation online on NWA's website. I got all the way to the part for the credit card, and their system went down. So on Sat, I called the help desk. They said there was nothing they could do about me missing my 14 day advance. So on Monday I called the elite desk and they booked a reservation for me. The agent waived the advance, and gave me the flights, and a confirmation number. And I gave her my credit card number and she said everything was all set. Now when I try to go and check my reservation online, there is no reservation, and they haven't charged or even authorized my credit card. I really don't wanna call. But then again I don't want to go get to the airport next friday and have no reservation. Any suggestions? Anyone ever had a problem like this with NWA or any other airline.

The reason I don't really wanna call, because if they made a mistake and didn't charge me I surely don't want to be the one to alert them to it. Which could be quite possible with NWA, I use to be a flight attendant with them, and they are very inefficent. So I dunno I guess it's a catch 22.

Call 'em and tell them you want to check your seat assignment (or ask for a special meal, etc). They'll either accomodate you or else indicate that there's no res.

umguy, it has been my experience that only a portion of my airline reservations are available online. None of the reservations I make offline appear. Most of the reservatons I make online are listed.
I was glad to learn that you were able to book your reservation on Monday with the elite desk, even though the 14 day advance had passed by several days. Call Northwest Airlines and reconfirm your reservation using your record locator number. Hopefully, all will be in order. Ask them to fax or e-mail you an e-ticket itinerary and receipt.
Whenever I have an online problem, I immediately call the site's help desk. They are usually very helpful and they complete offline whatever task I was attempting online.
Good luck and happy travel!

I don't always have the credit card hit immediatley when making a reservation, some times it takes a while.
I certainly wouldn't have my hopes up for a free ticket though, you will eventually be charged for it.
I'd call to see if you were inj teh system, to me that's more important then the sliver of hope they won't charge you for it (which probably won't happen).

If you have not been charged I can guarantee your tickets have not been issued which leads to one of 2 problems. The first problem is your rez may cancel if it's unticketed depending on what the agent entered as a ticketing field. The 2nd problem would be if you wait till you get to the airport without tickets issued the advance purchase fare will not be avaialble and you be out of luck not to mention how time consuming it would be to fix it at that point, you may miss the flight while the agents sort it out. You won't get to fly for free......

I gave the AAdvantage folks all the appropriate information over the phone, and my tickets came in the mail a few days later. However, when I check my credit card account online it shows the $42 tax being charged for both tickets, but only ONE $295 charge.
Any ideas about what's up? Is either of these tickets invalid to use?

Ok, I called the other day actually, and the tickets are confirmed just not ticketed. I dunno what they are waiting on, but everything is fine. Secondly, if they don't charge me for it, do you think I'm going to complain? Someone said "I think he's asking for help on how to get the ticket for free, well that's not the case, I supplied them with my Amex number, the rest is up to them. I mean honestly, would you call and say, "Hey I think you forgot to charge me." Oh, and I can view the reservation online now, but still not charged to my card.

umguy, it is your fault that you didn't ticket 14 days in advance. Let me get this straight: the NWA website went down, and you waited an entire day before calling the help desk? Why? And then, you waited another two days before calling to actually buy the ticket?
NWA should not have waived the 14 day advance purchase rule for you. All you had to do was call NWA on the telephone on Friday when the website went down, or use an online travel agent, such as Expedia.com or Travelocity.com. You waited way too long to buy your ticket, and then you expect them to waive the advance purchase requirement, which they actually did.
And then, ON TOP OF THAT, you're hoping the ticket is free! Unbelievable!
You say you used to be a NWA F/A. After all the passengers you must have had to deal with demanding compensation for the stupidest little things, one would think you wouldn't want to be that type of person.

Yes, I would call and say, "You forgot to charge me." Otherwise I am not being ethical.
A wise person once said, "What is hateful to you, do not do to anyone else."
