Heads Up Re: 1999 Elite U/G This Week

The following appears today in Air Canada's CIC 1/1 (what's new):

UPGRADE POLICY**21FEB
REMINDER //L// CLS TICKET CAN NEVER BE UPGRADED TO C CLASS
WITH AEROPLAN CERTS. ONLY Y/M, IN SOME CASES B/H/V. CIC*47
It's clear to us that they are talking about the 2000 certificates, but I wouldn't be surprised if some members are given a hard time this week using 1999 u/g certificates from Q/L fares.

If you do have trouble, refer the agent to CIC 47/33, which contains information about the 1999 Aeroplan Elite upgrade program, and includes the following:

ONE-WAY UPGRADE FROM ORIGIN TO DESTINATION INCLUDING
CONNECTIONS TO EXECUTIVE CLASS OR EXECUTIVE FIRST
FROM *ANY FARE* TICKET, PROVIDING ALL TARIF RULES
OF THE FARE ARE MET. INCLUDING WEBSAVER FARES, NET FARES,
AIR CANADA VACATIONS AND COMPASSIONATE TRAVEL FARES.

Thanks Howard. I already had a little "incident" in Calgary going back to New York a couple of weeks ago on a Websaver weekend fare. I had my little print out and it sure helped. The agent looked in vaid unable to find anything to refute my claim for an upgrade but she was sure it was in the rules somewhere.

Using my last two 1999 upgrade on L fares this weekend.

I am also seeing if there will be any free J seats to use upgrades for people I meet along the way -- I have two certificates that Dorian sent me to help others upgrade and it has been a lot harder to use them since the CP merger as there seem to be less free business class seats).

I used to be able to upgrade others 100% of the time now I am down to 1 in 2 flights. Have met some interesting people though.

After Feb it is up to V fares I guess. I still think it is a small price to pay for the benefit.

I was just able to upgrade to business for my trip to Boston this weekend. I, like BB, am using my last two anyfare upgrade certs this weekend.

Howard: I was ready to quote CIC 47/33 but no need to. I will download CIC 47/33 to my Palm organizer just in case I need to show them at the airport.

I am getting the information through Sabre. I wonder whether it is available elsewhere - I'm curious to see Flyaway's answer.
