Issues with upgrading UA/AC flights

I'm flying SFO-YYZ on Thu night, ticketed as UA 3218, but the flight is actually AC 754.

I called UA this morning on another matter and before hanging up asked for an upgrade based on my newly-acquired PE status and, as I expected to happen, was declined on the obvious grounds that the flight is an AC one and it was suggested that I contact AC directly.

I then telephoned AC, and they noted that I was ticketed as UA, and then asked whether I had UA upgrade certificates - I replied that I had both UA and AC certificates. The agent was confused on how to go about upgrading me and sought out her supervisor to clarify matters. The supervisor stated that I can't waitlist for an upgrade under the codeshare circumstances using either set of coupons and I would only be able to upgrade at check-in/gate.

So, it seems that I should have not chosen a different ticketing carrier than flying carrier as despite having status on BOTH AC and UA - I'm still being sooooo discriminated against

Reminds me of that Burl Ives song "Mr. In Between".

Good luck on getting your upgrade on the code share--hope it works out at the gate. Unfortunately, it looks like the Executive Class is booked on AC754 (but you never know, I have been lucky even on oversold flights). If you are lucky you might even get Mileage Plus points based on cabin seated in if you ever do get that upgrade!

Looks like we are arriving at the same time (but at different parts of Pearson). I will be off to Ottawa by the time you clear Customs. Catch you going the other way Sunday.

I'll also be in Toronto on the weekend (coming in at 10:35 Saturday on AC561, leaving Monday 3:15 on AC566).

On a side note, I got an unexpected bonus in my statement today... the one CHA-ORD trip I took on United in November got doubled for Party in Paradise...

My return flight YYZ-YVR is ticketed and operated by AC (Flt #115). I just called for an upgrade (72 hours in advance) and was immediately confirmed and assigned a seat number as well.

I like this new system of confirming upgrades 72h in advance rather than waitlisting 48h before !!!

It is a definite improvement. But then there's those Super Elite upgrades confirmable at time of reservation. Now if they would only make those transferable (even on 72 or 48 hr notice) to their Star Alliance partners . . .

... then there would be very soon no upgrade seats be available anymore (with now 6, in april 8 and in late 99 9 StarAlliance partners which would total about 3 to 4 times as many top-status-ff trying to upgrade ...).

But I want it all Rudi -- I want it all! . . . meanwhile back at reality.

Actually it probably would be more of a problem for me on Air Canada where I have few problems upgrading now.

OK, I'll compromise, how about standby at gate upgrades for Star Alliance partners (still giving first preference to members flying on their own planes)?
