Aeromexico midnight strike imminent
Unionized flight attendants at Mexico's biggest carrier, Aeromexico, a unit of holding company, said they would strike at midnight tonight after wage talks broke down.
``The dialogue is broken...the fight attendants left with the instruction to go on strike,'' Alejandra Barrales, secretary general of the 1,500-member airline attendants' union ASSA told Reuters.``We just ended the assembly, where we decided to reject the proposal for 12 percent salary increase and ratified the call to strike.''
FA's seek a 25% salary increase, as well as fulfilment of child care and retirement agreements reached with management in 1998.
Aeromexico and Mexicana, both controlled by Cintra, are the country's two most important airlines, together capturing 77% of the national market.

UPDATE:
Aeromexico President Alfonso Pasquel said Monday that he was willing to increase flight attendants' benefits, although he added that the demands of their ASSA trade union were too steep for the company.
