What happens to miles when I take an airline job?
Folks,
I'm thinking about taking a job with an airline (I know, I know, but the carriers *are* hiring in certain categories). I have well over a million miles on several carriers. Questions:
1) What happens to my miles on that carrier? I am assuming my FF membership is cancelled?
2) What happens to my miles on other carriers?
Thanks.

I guess it all depends on for which airline you will be working since I believe they all have different rules regarding this.
I am myself working in the airline industry for one * airline. I have a FF card for my own airline with a few thousand miles and I have even achieved * Gold status in another FF program.

One flight attendant mentioned to me fellow FAs were actually elite members of their airlines' frequent-flyer program. They would buy tickets, just like us regular consumers, instead of trying to use their employee passes on some busy routes which offered nil chance of getting on as an employee. Each airline may differ.

Why would they take them away?
I'm an Airline employee and everyone I know in my office has a mileage account and the mileage earning credit card that goes with it.

It depends on the individual airline policy. My dad's carrier forbids him or any member of his immediate family (which includes me) to have membership in either their FF program or in those of any of its codeshare or marketing partners.

Very interesting. I thought all the carriers would have a similar policy. Glad I asked the question of all you experts... Thanks.

A friend of mine has two jobs - United Express RJ pilot and part-time management consultant. He has to buy revenue tickets if he's travelling for the consulting job, so he has elite status with both UA and AA.

My airline allows employees to participate in the Mileage Plan program. I can't see where there would be any kind of a conflict of interest. If their employees are willing to buy tickets or use services that make money for the airline then why not award them as they do any other person? I would be interested to know what airline does not allow this.
