Brilliant idea: unsold seats sold at auction!!

I just came acrosss this amazing website:

AOM French airlines puts its unsold seats on sale by auction every monday!!!

Looking at what these seats go for, you can get a LAX-ORY RT for USD 167.!!!!!

This is a terrific idea- way ahead of those silly efares and the like- which is BOUND to take off.

Can't wait to try it.

It's all in French but ccheck it out

The downside is that you have to fly on AOM.

I know.. Although from what I have heard, it's actually not a bad airline in business/first. A very refined friend of mine actually swears by them.
But I hope that other airlines will follow suit on the concept. Sure makes sense to me.

It sounds to me that this is what PRICELINE.COM is all about except you don't get the choice of airline or time.

This is why Priceline is such a ridiculous notion. you have to be pretty desperate to save a buck, to let anyone take your money upfront and THEN put you on any airline or any hotel at any time, without any possibility of saying NO. Never gonna use them until they change those ridiculous rules.

What AOM is doing is, I think, much better. They are saying, we have empty seats on this flight, on this date, how much are you willing to pay us to get on?

Priceline is not a true auction! For one thing, as noted, the restrictions are ridiulous. For another, they already have a set price that they (or the airlines) will take. If you happen to bid and hit or exceed the price, you get the seat. It is not a highest bidder wins situation which I believe is what AOM is doing.
