Comparison UA versus LH of the whole trip:
total real flight-miles: 33'981 (just under the 34'000 limit for this ticket)
total mileage credits (not counting promotions): LH 81'681, UA 57'605
total Status miles: LH 81'681, UA 36'797 !!!
Commentary:
* The total mileage comparison is not fair with UA, as UA miles "weight" better for awards by an average of I guess 25% (but even than: 57'605*1.25=72'006 UA compared with 81'681 for LH)
* The Status miles are (more or less) fully comparable, as with LH 100'000 status miles for non-german-residents also qualify for the highest level = Senator. And UA is FAR behind on that: LH 81'681, UA 36'797. What a difference that makes also in flight-ticket-money to become UA's 1K compared to LH's Senator!!!

Hi Rudi,
I think you need to edit your itinerary or you're doing some weird flying. I believe that you'll be in Honolulu on September 2nd and not the 9th?
Thanks for the invitation. You're on for dinner, lunch, drinks or all of the above if I'm in town.

Hey Rudi!
Great itinerary! All I want to say is ...starve before you get on Ansett. Their BusinessFirst service will blow you away!
Ansett does not have a first class so their BusinessClass has 55" seat pitch, and is located in the nose and section behind that of a 747. Meals are catered by an 'on-board' chef and even though this is in business class, you would swear that you are travelling in First Class. The meals are way beyond any airline I have travelled on.
Ansett is due to switch their older 747-300's with newer 747-400's around August. So hopefully, you'd get to sit in a new plane then.
Have fun!

I know that flying in from overseas and landing over Sydney harbour at sunrise is one of the most incredible things you can do in a plane (so I'm parochial), but its a long way to come for just 3+1/2 hours in Australia. Our airport duty-free is cheap but you'd have to be a real bargain hunter to just be coming for some airport shopping!

Celestar340:
I booked the whole trip today with LH in Zuerich. There is only one problem open:
LH couldn't book me in business on Ansett. The StarAlliance class informations for RTW-tickets asks for booking class "D" for Ansett (for business & Firstclass RTW-tickets). But there was/is no "D" (NEVER) available on that flight from Hong Kong to Sydney.
For the moment they reserved a seat in eco ("V") to guarantee the trip and will inquire with Ansett.

Rudi -
I am in Melbourne today and I have checked with Ansett about your flight from HKG on 1st Sep.
There are "D" class space available.
Ansett says that you need to ask Lufthansa to do a "NN" on their reservations so that the D space can be requested.
FYI - Seat selection, the first 4 rows!
Hope this helps...

thank you VERY MUCH - I just phoned "my" Lufthansa and read them your advice. They will "try" as recommended.
post scriptum: I got my confirmed business and I am looking forward to Ansett's service and meals.
