Longest Airline Flight Artical
Interesting artical on United #895...the longest flight of any U.S. Carrier.

Interesting article. I guess I always assumed that SFO-SYD flights were longer than 16 hours, but I never took the time to actually look it up. Heck, maybe Australia ISN'T out of the question! Time to do some research!

Actually Matt, I believe they are about 14.5 going SFO->SYD and 13 and some change coming back...
I know I remember hearing the FA's on UA862 announcing a flight time of 13 hours and some odd minutes, but don't remember exactly...

The flight SFO-SYD is about 14 hours in both directions. But you have to factor in:
*When the plane actually takes off
*Delays at SFO (the usual norm!)
*Finding out halfway to Australia that you're low on Fuel and have to land on FIJI to get some (I've babbled on this in another thread, I think it's called "NEAR MISSES."
So on my last trip to Sydney going was about 17 and a half hours and back about 13.5 (I was so full of Fosters going home I didn't sense time!)
Makes me yearn for Fosters and Cairns and the Sydney Opera House and other beautiful scenery CATMAN

The longest flight in terms of miles is United Airlines' Chicago --> Hong Kong run. However, the longest flight in terms of time is South African Airways' JFK --> Johannesburg run. Hope this helps ...
