Jan 5 "day rate" for JFK Hotel - any "deal" suggestions?

Jan 5 'day rate' for JFK Hotel - any 'deal' suggestions?

Flying back from RIO via Sao Paulo (about 13 hours with stop) I want to catch 8 hours sleep in JFK. Then fly from there to Sydney without a stopover, so that is another 22 hours flying. Seat 15B upstairs on a 747 is nice, but not as nice as a hotel bed!

Arrive JFK at 6.05am, Jan 5, so say 7am out of customs. Flight JFK-SYD leaves at 5.32 pm, so will leave for airport around 4pm.

Does anyone know of a Hotel in the JFK area, that has a free shuttle, that I can book as a day rate deal? Trying to book an "overnight deal" on priceline.com not coming up too well. Early Jan and a Friday should be a doozie for a deal?

Any suggestions from folks that live around that region or travel there often? Any low rate point redemption deals? Appreciate any assistance.

OZ,

There's a Best Western, Ramada, and Sheraton at JFK. Have you tried those?

Depending on my schedule, I may be able to catch up with you. Time will tell. My good friend Tom911 says you're OK!

You can keep trying with Priceline, as their inventory changes all the time. We see this very frequently. That being said, using Priceline is a risky endeavor for this stay as the hotel is not obligated to allow you to check in before the stated check in time. They likely will if they have rooms, but you have no recourse if they don't.

Sheryl, how would check-in/check-out times work with Priceline? Would they understand he wanted to arrive in the AM and check out that night? It seems more secure to explain the situation to a res. agent.

Call the Sheraton. I noticed that you were Starwood Gold, you get a guaranteed 4 pm late check out. TRy calling their in house reservations to see if you can get a day rate, if not, make a reservation for the night before (Starwood holds the room until checkout time the next day, or they are supposed to), tell them that you are arriving the next morning, and want a 4 pm check out. That should work.

When you place your offer with Priceline for a hotel stay, you are bidding for a room with double occupancy at standard checkin and checkout times, nothing else. Your stay is prepaid and guaranteed for late arrival. While most hotels honor special requests, not all of them do as they are not required to do so.

I think customs doesn't open until 6:00AM, so if the plane arrives early you may not be allowed to disembark before then.

Then again, the flight may be a bit late and you'll find long lines at customs and immigration thanks to the fact several flights from South America arrive near 6:00AM.

I hope you still profit from your likely less than 8 hours of sleep.

Ozzie, I may be wrong, but the only real on-airport hotel at JFK used to be the Hilton. A lot of the other "airport hotels" as advertised in the OAG hotel guide are up to 30 miles away in Queens or Long Island (whichever one JFK is not in. Actually I think it's in both!)

In years gone by I have stayed overnight in-airport: sleeping on the benches in the departure area. Fine until they start Hoovering up around 4am. I wouldn't recommend it during the day though!

Just annoying this one. Yes, phoned Ramada, B/W and Sheraton and best "day rate" was Sheraton at $87 plus 13.25% tax. 100 bucks for a few hours sleep seems kinda steep. Asked about the UA "50% off" on night stay and that all came to $125 best deal!

The Hilton has nothing to do with the JFK airport property (or so Hilton tell me!) and I sure as heck am not sleeping on a park bench or at the airprt, not with 22 hours of flights coming up anyway! My dear lady will be MOST impressed!

I'll try Priceline again, altho as Sheryl rightly says, they might get p!ssed if you check in at 7am. I guess if you tell them you'll be out at 5pm, they may actually like it? Frees up that room for another stay. Airportt hotelds are at least used to wacky times of arriving /departure.
