It looks like labor costs have at least a thing to do with it:
The captain on the United flight earns $16,350 to $18,000 a month, according to Air Inc., a pilot-placement service. The JetBlue captain makes $6,800 a month. Uniteds senior flight attendants on the plane earn more than $41,000 annually, compared with JetBlue attendants pay of $16,800 to $27,000 a year. Even lodgings for the crews in Oakland are different United pilots hotel rooms cost $42 more a night on a walk-in basis.
