the best way to fly same day round trip ? miles vs revenue? or ?
I need to fly round trip same day to pick up a young nephew. What is the best way to do this? I could use miles, but I hate to. If I book two different(not using the return portion of each ticket) tickets my cost is much less than if I book one round trip ticket. Is this a potential problem? Thanks all you experts.

Don't use miles for this. Buy a roundtrip on two different airlines (not CO/NW, it's the same airline as far as back-to-backs are concerned). Arrange your return flights so you can fly out and back the same day on a later date. This allows you to collect miles on both roundtrips as well as not committing throw-away ticketing.

Actually you could do CO/NW back to back if you like and not face problems. The way to accomplish this is purchase the two tickets from two different sources. One might be directly from an airline and the other from a travel agent. And then it's always best to not put in your frequent flyer number, rather file for missing credit later on.
