Security Breach Evacuates BWI Pier B

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/.../07/breach.htm

I know this isn't the first time WN (thats Southwest, Yanks) has had security problems at BWI (Yanks, that would be Baltimore-Washington International). Looks like this'll mess up WN's (again, Southwest) entire east coast network today...

Another mistake by a highly trained security worker shuts down an airport.

Three replies, now.

Do you know something that isn't public knowledge yet, neverhome? according to the article, the reason "isn't known", I.E. hasn't been made public. if you have more info would you share your source?

A WN spokesman was on CNN saying that there was an equipment failure, and the faulty piece of equipment has since been taken out of service.

Just experience from knowing the type of information that is released to the public.
On tv they said that a suspicious bag was noted but the passenger walked away with out any further searching of the bag.

??

i didn't say that i didn't agree with your statement, i just like to have some facts to support the claim before i make it. i think it is now safe to assume that the screeners had a hand in this incident.

kinda hard to believe flintstone and i both beat doc. maybe it was his suspicious bag? hehehehehe

Once again, a good class-action lawsuit for this gross act of stupidity is called for here. Every $%#@ing time, it's "shut down the airport". I'm so glad I'm not flying in February.

Faulty equipment I'll bet, the scanner probably forgot to plug itself in again.

Argen-not-so-bright's statement:

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/020207/dcth051_1.html

Notice how they "clinton" their way around the fact that they let the passenger in question at the time slip away....

I swear there is a direct correlation to this stuff when I fly out of BWI. I've been there for the last 2 or 3 breaches.. or problems.. ie.. the water main that broke

I don't think you can really say that. While it may be unlikely that anything got through the faulty machine, something may have. Clearing the terminal and rescreening is clearly the correct way to recitify the situation.

This is always going to be a case of ****ed if you do, ****ed if you don't. If they hadn't rescreened everyone and a bomb had gotten in through faulty equipment, you'd be complaining to anyone that would listen that they should have cleared the terminal and rescreened everyone. If they did clear the terminal and rescreen and no bomb went off, you'd complain that they needlessly cleared the terminal.

Until we can convert everyone's 20/20 hindsight into 20/20 foresight, it's better to err on the side of safety, if you ask me.
