This must be one of the best bangs for the buck around. One way in Business. Over 7000 miles. Best airline around!

Here's another:

SMF-SFO-LAX (UA;Y)
LAX-NRT (SQ:F)
NRT-TPE (SQ:C)

Total: $1400

Not bad for a hop in F on SQ!

ZRS: for some reason sfo/lax-tpe/sel are usually much cheaper than comparable routes in J and F. In fact, round trip business for these sectors occasionally dips below $1200. The WN-like presence of China Airlines, EVA, Korean, and Asiana probably has something to do with it.

I thought our "Chiangi" mentioned sometime ago that he saw RT in J on SQ NRT-LAX for around $1800 US, for sale in Japan.

Yeah, but this is out of the USA... IMO that's what it makes it a rarity. Full mileage accrual, I assume, or...?

It's booked in J so I assume it's good for Q miles + CoS bonus. Only restriction is that travel must be on Mon-Thu.

And where might one find out more about this fare? What are the restrictions?

This fare is not that much of a rarity -- it's been possible to get to TPE from the West Coast for around $1000 in business class for as long as I've been flying to Asia (about 7 years).

LAX-NRT is the most competitive transpacific route served by the largest number of airlines, I think. SQ's around USD1,800 for a round trip out of Tokyo is still available. Its just over 1,000USD if you wish to fly MH on this route, a round trip, of course. SQ is cheapter than NW on this route, too! Yes, it's a fifth-freedom route for SQ. That's probably the reason.

You can buy the cheaptest distance/price wise fare with SQ (as well as all other airlines) in a certain Asian city .... I am not talking about BKK, where, I think, SQ does not sell so cheap (except economy tickets). SQ is also not bad out of TPE, too, pricewise.

True moondog, I have seen that price offered by the likes of China Airline but not by SQ.
