I got a message last week while I was out of town. I'm also interested in hearing what the GM has said to others.

I just got another phone call from the GM, and what he offered me wansnt as good as some i've heard- just the the one free night AT the mex airport. The following nights would be at 130USD. I asked about a free night at an another international Hilton, or HHonors points- but it was a no go. Anyone else?

I just got through speaking with the GM.
Offered me one free night with the remaining 2 nights of my 3 night stay @130.00

I asked if the night would be free if I only spend one night instead of 3.
That was a no-go,as was some kind of other compensation eg:HH points etc.
He didn't seem to comprehend that either...anyway...I said I would have to confer with my wife and I would e-mail him my decision(never took down his e-mail address)I'll probably end up CXL RESV. with Travelocity.

...well it was worth a try...

As I posted elsewhere previously, one FT'er at NY "Do" last month told me he was given 50,000 HH points NOT to go to Mexico City. He gleefully accepted he said.

OZ --

IS that person reliable??

The reason I ask is that it seems so out of the offers that others have received -- above -- and have written about. Moreover, it is well beyond what was reported by the WSJ.

I hate to say this, but I do not see how that is possible. Perhaps he was pulling your leg, or trying to make you envious. After all, as I understand it, you were the discover of both the Baht Pass and the Mexicana doings.

Is my theory plausible?

DOC 2 BE. Well this person is a regular FT'er, and was telling the same story to many at the Catman "DO" a couple weeks ago in New York. Whether he asked and they offered, or whether they offered to him direct, I really can't say. Maybe if he is reading, he can add more details.

And do not forget the $27 snafu tickets LAX to Paris United handled on a case by case basis initially ... lots of different "buy off" offers were made originally to FT'ers for the same mistake.

Amazing how someone who was "outed" from the 'DO' comes up with so many details. I'd bet that it's just another post for the sake of posting and boasting. I'd wait for the person that actually received this offer to post it as fact before I or anyone else should believe what OZ has to say.

I have not been contacted despite promises from
1) a supervisor at Travelocity who did not follow up and when I called back said I had been contacted by sabre (had not and have not and it has been a few weeks)

2) supervisor at Hilton - who told me everyone was being offered the "same" $50 first night then regular rate - when I suggested this was not true accross the board, nor did it seem fair given that the error had been reported and they did not correct it for over a week - still no answer after a few weeks

3) I am about to have to buy a ticket for my first reservation which is May 31 - but it looks like I will have to bag it

You know, that may be just their gamble...that most people will simply not show up. The know most people who booked the rate were probably from this board, and they know that people on this board know that they're NOT honoring the rate as is for all the dates booked, and so most people, if not contacted, will NOT put up their money on the gamble and actually show up. maybe they're waiting for enough people to cancel, and then their loss won't be so great.

How late can you cancel without penalty? If night before, wouldn't it be strange if they got a lot of last minute cancellations and could not fill the rooms. Seems like they would want to contact all those that made reservations at $0 and get this resolved. They probably could do it easily by offering either a 5,000 HH points to cancel now or a better rate (say $75 per night)in lieu of the $0.

and what exactly is the cost of NOT cancelling a $0 reservation? I would think with written confirmation that if they tried to charge my cc I would have a very good case. Please no theoretical replies just wonder if a anyone has had this experience yet.

Sjk616, I have that email address if you want it. The GM called me with the same $0/$130 offer today. He pressed me for a decision, but I said I'd email him later.
