Getting miles for car rentals has been quite frustrating for me for about 2 years. In 1999, I got my miles posted without calling only 3 times in 12. This year 3 for 4 so far. When you finally get the miles, there is no apology or explanation. Extensive conversations with the desk agents don't seem to help. Could anyone speculate what the problem is? I don't think it is cheaper for them to do by hand what the computer should have done. The car rental help lines often tell me that they have submitted the miles but they'll submit them again. Should I believe them?

Dollar has been the worst for posting miles. Used them often in Hawaii, but miles took up to one year to post. Took my business to National, so far no problems. Hertz consistently "closed" their Gold Club line, so it wasn't worth the hassle.
Now with the miles offered rather insignificant, loyalty to any one rental agency is based more on price and speed of check in/out. Sorry no FAX #s known.

I find Dollar to be the worst offender in this group. Sometimes, it also seems to be a bad combination of airline and car rental company (i.e., Dollar w/NW). I was able to get most of the miles due, but only after extensive calling. Dollar's frequent flyer desk number is 1-800-800-6080 (but I don't have any of the fax #'s you asked for). Needless to say, I won't rent w/Dollar again.

Good luck to you!

Normally, I don't like to grind my axe, but in the case of Dollar I'd like to sharpen it to a fine point. They are without doubt the worst when it comes to posting miles and responding to inquiries. I can remember holding on to old rental contracts and periodically pulling them out to call them "once more" to get the miles due me. I know I wasted more time than the miles are worth, but I felt compelled. I am convinced that it is corporate policy to delay posting mileage credit. Who has the patience or the wherewithal to keep calling for a few hundred miles. They will eventually frustrate some percentage of renters and never give them their miles. In the past, I found myself lured to the Dollar counter with promises of higher than usual mileage. Now I avoid Dollar. The only power we have is withholding our patronage.

I guess I'm lucky I've never used Dollar.
My bad luck has been with
National (US) 4/6
National (London) 0/2
Avis 0/3
Alamo 2/4
None of the follow-ups are worth my time, but I do it anyway, because I realize that it affects all of us. If it is corporate policy to delay or avoid posting miles it should be customer policy to keep complaining and make it more expensive for the company.
