Taking Flight Coupons to Other Airline
Hi,
My company booked me on AA for my next trip. Until this year, it would been just fine. But I'm about 8K short of becoming Premier on UA.
This may be the year I finally may become elite member. Additionally I was looking forward for upgrade to business class on either 747 or 777. Please don't mention me about AA's Gold challenge, I found it out too late for this year. 
Has anyone successfully took the flight coupon to different airline? In my case, AA to UA. Needless to say, I have paper ticket not E-ticket.
The bussiness class on upper deck of 747 spoiled me...

There is no easy answer. If the fare basis carries little in the way of restrictions, and UA has seats in the same fare basis, you probably would be successful. The wild card is whether your company has a negotiated fare with AA.
My employer often issues me tickets on UA in "B" (no material restrictions), but the actual amount paid for the ticket is substantially lower than the regular "B" tariff. American will not honor them, as we don't have an equivalent, in dollars, negotiated fare.

I have Y-fare ticket on AA. BTW my company has negotiated fare with both AA and UA. My previous UA tickets were B-fare. Since AA has bigger discount, AA Y-fare is about $400 lower than UA B-fare ticket. But because of company rules regarding last minute tickets, I'm stuck with AA. I'll try my luck at UA ticket office tomorrow.
P.S. I bet my company's CEO doesn't have to worry about this kind of problem when he travels. Since I'm a cubicle dweller, I'm stuck with what's given to me...

If I were you, and you're probably glad I'm not, I'd call UA and plead my case. I might even pony up a few dollars to "equalize" the fares. If you're that close to being an elite, they may well cut you some slack.

Dan ~ Your company's CEO probably gets paid FC tickets, so the airline is less important to him since he doesn't have to worry about things like upgrades!

Beckles ~ I just remembered that a unit of my company makes business jets! Forget the FC, he flys on company jet. I wonder I will ever get a chance to fly on one...

Dan...there are no ff points when flying the company planes!!! As I remember, the low man on the ladder also made the drinks, passed out the paper and help the pilots toting things around. But free cigarettes (did that then, as did most of us), booze (we all did that too) and the latest magazines and candy bars were the perks. Watch what you wish for, you might get it!

No FF miles? No Way! Collecitn FF miles is a part of the game.
FYI, I had no luck at the UA ticket office. The $ amount was too low for them, and I didn't feel like paying $400 out of my pocket.
Only gripe I have from this experience is at the department which handles the travel arrangements. They book on UA all the time and suddenly they insist on AA because of saving! If they are looking for saving, they should book on AA everytime.
