Woman Injured After Detroit Plane Crash

A small single-engine plane crash-landed near Coleman A. Young International Airport (DET) Monday night after running out of fuel, sending a 45-year-old passenger to Detroit Receiving Hospital in serious condition. After the aircraft struck a utility pole, it brought down power lines and electrocuted the unidentified woman, while the 18-year-old male pilot suffered minor injuries and was able to escape the plane. The flight came to rest in the middle of a street in a residential area, narrowly missing some cars parked nearby. There was no smoke or fire. Detroit city spokesman John Roach claims that the plane had been trailing a banner overhead during a downtown fireworks demonstration and was in the process of returning to the airport when the aircraft was forced to make an unplanned landing.
