Virgin Australia Cockpit Fills With Smoke, Grounds Flight

Virgin Australia Flight VA1188 was forced to make an emergency landing in Newcastle after smoke was reported billowing out of the instrument panel located in the cockpit of the aircraft.

“All passengers have disembarked the aircraft which was met by emergency crews as a precautionary measure,” said a Virgin Australia spokesperson.

“Virgin Australia will work to get all customers to their destination as soon as possible. Safety is Virgin Australia’s number one priority and we have immediately commenced a full investigation into the incident.”

No injuries to crew members or passengers were reported.
