In Brief: President Obama Taps Vice Commandant of U.S. Coast Guard For TSA Administrator

Vice Admiral Peter Neffenger, vice commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, is poised to become the new administrator of the Transportation Security Administration. President Barack Obama announced Tuesday that he plans to nominate Neffenger for the position, which has been occupied by Acting Administrator Melvin Carraway since John Pistole retired on December 31, 2014.

“I urge the Senate to act quickly on the nomination of Vice Admiral Neffenger to be TSA Administrator,” said Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, adding that this position is one that shouldn’t remain open for long and that senators are aware of that.
